About The Photographer: Why I Love Film Photography

by Gold Coast photographer - Golden Sundays Photography

I am a Gold Coast portrait photographer - I started out playing with film as just a child and it’s so fun to be playing with it again now!

Film photography

is becoming wildly popular on the Gold Coast with professional photographers. I have memories of filling up a roll of film as a child and eagerly handing it in to see what I created. For me now, I enjoy cutting back from all the buttons and settings of modern cameras, it allows me to really think about what I am capturing instead of just taking 10 photos of the one thing. I have to be a little more precious with my shots - but at the same time I enjoy being able to chuck the camera in my bag and not worrying about breaking it, as it’s just a cheapie! This has allowed me to capture some moments I normally wouldn’t have. Not to mention I just love the look of film, and that grain. I even love the shots that don’t turn out - blurry or out of focus images are just as beautiful! I often include them in my clients work also.

I love the thrill of getting your images back!

Instead of that instant fulfilment we are used to, you have to be patient while the labs develop your images -and when they are returned to you, it could be a pleasant surprise! Often I don’t even remember what I have taken, so when handing in a roll of film, it truly could be anything. I’m quickly becoming obsessed and you can often find me scrolling marketplace or ebay for my next vintage camera find.

Take a look at some of these shots that were all captured with various film cameras I have collected, and let me know what you think!
